Something for the boys...

With a little girl and an older boy, I find I tend to always be creating girly items. It's not that my son doesn't like what I create it's just that he doesn't seem to have the same passion that my daughter and I have with fabric. (I can't blame him it's not really a boy thing and it certainly doesn't compare to his playstation or soccer in his world.)

So this week I am going to be working on boys items. To start it off I have a gorgeous pair of boys shorts to share with you...
I fell in love with this fabric when I saw it and just wish I sewed when zac was little I could just picture him at 2 wearing a pair of these. I
may never have got them off him but at least they would have been funky...
I am thinking of adding an applique' top to match but am still a little unsure. What do you think?

springing into spring

We have farewelled winter for another year and welcomed spring. I can't wait to get started on all the pretty skirts and dress for the spring. I have decided to continue to produce mostly one of a kind items. I enjoy this more rather than continuously producing the same items.

I would love to know what my readers think of my new items. You can pop over to www.facebook.com/boorahdesigns
to view them.

Winter, how I love blankets, soup, rain....

I didnt really notice that winter was here until yesterday. It was freezing in brisbanes north especially with the rain around. We just plotted around all day it was great I even managed to get some sewing finished.

I am still making winter clothing items and will be until the demand for them stops, but I am really excited to be starting the spring collection. Skirts, Skirt, Skirt and of course shorts. I am a huge fan of pinks so it is unusual for me to work with other colours, however yesterday I tried something new and I came up with the cutest little girls outfit in size 2.

I love how it turned out and cant wait to continue the spring collection. If it available for purchase in my madeit and etsy stores.

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Purses

Purses, I love purses and with a little of my influence so does Lillianna. I made her one and she loves it. It's her favourite accessory. On any given day you can find her purse filled with anything from lipgloss, her waterbottle, her fav baby of the day, a snack of some kind, buttons and the list could go on and on.

So with this in mind I have decided to pop some in my Etsy and Madeit stores.

Sunday Afternoon Recipe..

Yesterday was such a lovely day, I just plotted around cleaning, creating, baking and spending some quality time with my little girl while her big brother was out playing with the neighbours.
We decided to bake some yummy lamingtons to have after our homemade chippies. They were just beautiful enjoyed under the patio with a nice cup of tea. I thought i'd share the recipe with you so you too could enjoy them.

Lamingtons.

First your will need to make a simple cake recipe. I used this buttercake one:

Butter Cake

125g Butter, Softened
1 Teas Vanilla Extract
3/4 Cup Caster Sugar
2 Eggs
1 1/2 Cups Self-raising flour
1/2 Cup Milk

Chocolate Icing
2 Cups Icing Sugar Mix
1/3 Cup Cocoa Powder
1/4 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Boiling Water
2 Cups Coconut

Preheat oven to moderate. Grease and line pan. (I used a rectangle tray with sides of about 2cms.
Beat butter, extract and sugar in small bowl with electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, until combined.
Stir in sifted flour and milk slowly to combine.
Pour into prepared tray and bake in moderate oven until cake is cooked.
Once cooked turn onto a wired rack to cool.
Once cooled trimmed the edges of the cake and cut into 15 pieces.
Spread the coconut over a plate.

To make icing sift icing sugar and cocoa into a bowl. Add the milk and water and stir until smooth. Using a fork dip the cake pieces in the icing and then roll in the coconut to coat. Set on a wired rack with a tray underneath and leave to set of approx 2 hours.

Enjoy...

Easter, A time to spend with loved ones.

Its been a while since my last post, I did intend to post more regularly but with a toddler at home that really hasn't worked in my favour. I have been busy making dresses and pants for the first BrisStyle Twilight Markets on April 30 in King George Square Brisbane and the first BrisStyle Mother and Child market at Hamilton. Its all very exciting.

Well today was spent at the beach with my husband and children. I was great to relax and enjoy so time out. We swam, and walked while the children rode their bikes (Lilli was riding and steering all by herself, she is growing up so fast) and scooters, and then they explored the playground climbing gym and all. It's times like these you sit back and realise just how lucky you are to have such a wonderful family.

The children are so excited about the easter bunny coming tonight, they have written a letter and left a carrot out for him. Lets just hope they fall asleep some time soon so he can come before he too falls asleep. Tomorrow we are heading out to my aunties property for lunch with the family. I love seeing them all, especially since we moved. It really feels special to spend quality time with them. Nathan and I have been busy this afternoon preparing our vegetable pie and chocolate cup cakes to take along to share.

I hope your easter is perfect spent with people you love.

One BrisStyle Market Down for 2010, lots more to come...

I prayed for no rain, and no rain it was between the hours of 9 and 2. Yay, my first BrisStyle market was so nerve racking I couldn't have been any more scared on my way there. But once I arrived all the ladies were so lovely. I was next to Rocknwrap and LittleMaryMoo and both ladies were just beautiful we had a lovely time. My darling mothing in law come along to keep my nerves at bay. And my gorgeous friend Rondelle from designsbyrondelle also participated.

I had such a wonderful day, the customers braved the clouds and came with smiling faces. I just can't wait to do it all again.

Mathildas Market

I thought I'd share with everyone my experience and pictures from my first ever time retailing at Mathildas Market.

After pulling a very late nighter friday I woke up to the beep beep of my alarm. I did consider pulling the pillow over my head, but with a very exciting day ahead of me I opted for a strong coffee instead. My DH packed the car while I got myself ready. And off to market we went. I couldn't have been any more nervous.
I have only been to Mathildas Market once as a shopper myself and that was at the old city hall venue. So when I walked into The Tote at the Racecourse I was blown away, it was just beautiful. Definitely a great venue for a gorgeous children's and baby market. After a little drama I was all set up for business.

I met some amazing people and really enjoyed the day. Now I am back to creating and getting ready for the Brisstyle Indie Designer Markets 6th March.

Mathildas Market

I'm so excited! On Saturday 20th February I will be showcasing my wares at Mathilda's Market. This is a fabulous niche market that offers unique, stylish and affordable baby and kids goods that are lovingly handmade or of limited production.

The retailers are hand picked to ensure an exciting product range. It's a kids shopping heaven. Better yet most of the retailers do not have a shop front, so you know you'll find something special, not available anywhere else.

Please come and see my stand at Mathilda's Market from 9am till 4pm at the Brisbane Racecourse at Eagle Farm, Ascot.

Entry and parking is free. With almost 80 retailers, gourmet food, plenty of kids entertainment Mathilds's Market is becoming one of Brisbane's best shopping destinations for the little ones.

For a sneak preview have a look at the website and enjoy a browse through the photos of all participants.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Three years on....

I can't believe that 3 years today I married my wonderful husband, Nathan. It feels like only yesterday we were planning our beautiful day. Alot as happened since then, we have welcomed our second child Lillianna, watched our firstborn Zachery start prep, moved to the beach and met some wonderful friends. And still our love is growing stronger.

My husband bought home this wonderful gift for me today...
